About This Event
Dr. Richard Bauckham and colleagues have made groundbreaking discoveries to reconnect the Gospel eyewitnesses with the traditions underlying our Gospels. At the same time, several groups of scientists have examined the Shroud of Turin--the purported burial cloth of Jesus--revealing probative insights into His passion and resurrection. Fr. Spitzer will explore the results of these investigations and discuss the implications for the reality and significance of Jesus Christ today.
Fr Robert J. Spitzer, S.J.’s recent book Science, Reason, and Faith: Discovering the Bible (Our Sunday Visitor, 2023), addresses issues often cited as evidence for purported conflicts between science and the Bible: the historicity of biblical events, creation, evolution, miracles, the resurrection of Jesus. In this set of public lectures on two consecutive evenings, Wednesday February 5 and Thursday, February 6, Fr Spitzer will explore key topics from his book.
Rev. Robert J. Spitzer, S.J. Ph.D., is a Jesuit priest, teacher, author, and lecturer on topics ranging from ethics, philosophy, and the relationship between modern physics and Christian faith. Fr. Spitzer has academic degrees from the Gregorian University and the Weston School (Cambridge), and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the Catholic University of America and has taught philosophy and business ethics at Georgetown University and Seattle University. Fr Spitzer led 杏吧原创 as President from 1998 to 2009. The author of many books, Fr Spitzer currently appears weekly on EWTN in "Father Spitzer’s Universe."
